annual picnic/ business meeting

Sunday September 28th at noon the Lane County Geographical Society will hold its annual picnic/ business meeting. This is an opportunity to gather with geographers throughout Lane County, including professionals, teachers and researchers. Feel free to spread the message to any geography-related people you know. We're attempting to get a more reliable sense of who out there would be interested in becoming a part of this organization. In the coming year we would like to have some events such as helping connect students at the University of Oregon with geography professionals. Getting a better sense of who the 'geography community' is can help us design these types of events.

The picnic/ business meeting will begin at noon on the 28th at the Hendricks Park shelter and go until about 5:00 or so. Please bring a dish to share and maybe some drinks. We will provide a couple of coolers with ice as well as plates, cups and utensils. There will also be an opportunity to BBQ so you can also bring grill-ables.

Again, please forward this along to people. My list is woefully incomplete.

Thanks and hope to see you all there,
Leslie McLees

annual meeting

(I am updating this because I am starting to send out the link to geographers around the county. Please scroll down for the first post and welcome)

The one event that LCGS hosts each year is the annual meeting/picnic/BBQ. This is usually held in September at a Eugene area park and is a chance to meet geographers from their various manifestations around Lane County and just enjoy a great afternoon. Hopefully with this new form of communication, we will have a chance to increase attendance and reach new people.

This summer I am leaving for seven weeks at the end of July and will be back the 19th of September. Hopefully the weather will remain as lovely as it has been through the early Fall. I will try to schedule something for one of the weekends after I return and post the schedule here. I will provide as much advance warning as I can. I will try to get one of the shelters at Alton-Baker Park reserved so that access is easier (and parking is free).

Please send me along events anything you would like the geography community in Lane County to know about. The email is at the top of the blog. Additionally, if you have opportunities for student geographers, please let me know. I have many students who would enjoy a good geography-related internship.

Enjoy the summer,
Leslie McLees

welcome to the lcgs

Welcome to the Lane County Geographical Society's new blog. This is the first attempt at an online forum for this group, and since I do not know how to create or maintain a real website- a blog it shall be for now. Through this medium I hope to provide an online place to post geography related news and events throughout Lane County and to provide a place where information on any events that LCGS activities (including the only current activity of this group, the annual picnic in September) can be disseminated. I encourage you to pass this link on to anyone who is interested, including researchers, government employees, local teachers and students involved in geography. At some point I would like to compile a list-serve for this group. LGCS now has a gmail account complete with email (lane.co.geography@gmail.com). Email whomever is running LCGS with questions or events you would like to have posted on this blog or sent out through an email. Please take a moment to send me your email to that address and I will add it to a listserve. Many of the addresses I have are long out of date and this will enable LCGS to reach a wider audience for events.

And who am I? My name is Leslie McLees and I am currently the president of LCGS. I am a second year doctoral student in Geography at the University of Oregon. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at the above email address. I look forward to any feedback you have and help in developing a list of geographers in Lane County.
